Thomson scoops consumer travel awards

13.11.2006 Thomson scooped two awards at the inaugural British Travel Awards for 2006 last night (9 Nov 2006). The Thomson network of holiday shops picked up the award for Best Retail Travel Agent of the Year and Thomson Ski and Snowboarding was voted Favourite Ski Operator.

Over 100,000 consumer votes were received to decide on the winners of the 2006 accolades. The British Travel Awards is a new and independent annual event which celebrates the consumer favourites in the travel industry. These recognize and celebrate the very best travel companies around. The event is tipped to be seen as the largest, most credible and glamorous event in the travel industry calendar.

Derek Jones, sales director, said: “What makes this award really special is that unlike other travel awards, this one is voted for by customers and it's their opinion that matters the most to us.”

“I was proud to accept this award on behalf of all Thomson staff. We have a dedicated, hard working and friendly team of travel professionals who provide the highest standard of service to our customers.”

Consumers were asked to vote via SMS text and online. Campaigns encouraging participation ran at all the major sports stadia in the UK and the Sunday Times ran a series of advertisements in their travel section. There were also bus-side and rail poster advertising campaigns, while Sky Travel ran promotions and advertisements encouraging consumers to cast their vote for their favourite travel companies.

Thomson has 730 travel shops UK wide which offer flights, hotel stays, luxury package holidays, cruises, foreign exchange, overseas property advice and assistance with all travel requirements.
