Mozart was born in Salzburg in 1756 and the city is also where he composed more than 350 of his most riveting works. To mark the 250th anniversary of his birth, Salzburg will host the biggest celebration in the city’s history with a variety of events throughout 2006, the highlight of which will be a two-week festival from 20 January to 5 February, including a variety of performances of Mozart’s operas, symphonies and concertos. Other celebrations during the year include the opening of the new Salzburg Museum on 26 January which will include a “Viva Mozart” exhibition. There will also be a new production of the musical comedy La Finta Giardiniera running from January to May 2006.
